Smiling BKK- Thai Restaurant in Dubai

About two weeks ago now Gavin and I headed further afield from our home than we normally go- living life on the edge eh?!
We went down towards Jumierah for a afternoon of Thai food at a place we were recommended by some friends.
'Smiling BKK' on the Al Wasl Road offers an experience like no other, sure its dark and what I would like to say 'different', but in a good way!
Walking past from the outside and even approaching the door you would think the place is shut or even closed down due to the dark interior and and no obvious lights.
When we walked in I was pleasently surprised, with funky lanterns dangling from the ceiling and walls filled with various photos of celebrities, canvas's of islands in Thailand and other random things.
At each table there was a cardboard cut out of an icon, Mickey Mouse, Charlie Chaplin, and Audrey Hepburn to name a few.
I opted to dine with Audrey and Charlie.

If you think that's cool then I haven't even told you the best bit. When we were greeted by the Thai waiter he handed us a toy gun, you pull the trigger on this when you want to order!

We decided not to go too wild and order too many starters like we normally do, so we we opted to go for our favorite Thai dish- 'Penang Curry', this is a peanut based curry with chicken, chilli, and coconut milk. The second dish was a yellow curry with eggplant, coconut milk, chicken, chilli and lemongrass.
Just a tip for those who aren't a fan of particularly spicy food- do not ask for it 'medium spicy', it definitely will set your mouth on fire!

It was quiet when we arrived- with only another couple dining, however it was early afternoon.
The service was great, the Thai man who waited on us was very friendly throughout and at the end a Thai lady bought us the bill and after we paid she bowed and thanked us in Thai 'Khob Khun Kah'.
This bizarre yet quirky restaurant is definitely somewhere to go for a different experience rather than the stereotypical glitz and glam of Dubai and I will definitely be recommending it to my friends out here.
My rating: 4/5
Lots of Love
